Job description
Our thirst for technology is a part of everything we do. The Data Center Engineering team takes the physical design of our data centers into the future. Our lab mirrors a research and development department -- cutting-edge strategies are born, tested and tested again. Along with a team of great minds, you take on complex topics like how we use power or how to run state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly facilities. You're a visionary who optimizes for efficiencies and never stops seeking improvements -- even small changes that can make a huge impact. You generate ideas, communicate recommendations to senior-level executives and drive implementation alongside facilities technicians.
With your technical expertise, you ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical).
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to data center services and operations teams, defining Mechanical system design requirements for multiple data center projects from inception to completion.
- Develop, implement, and manage the mechanical designs at the site level, starting from the basis of design through to the issuance of construction documents for new builds, infrastructure upgrades, and renovations.
- Collaborate with the Engineer of Record (EOR) to respond to site-specific engineering Requests for Information (RFI) and ensure alignment between Google's requirements and the overall design.
- Work with the core engineering team to provide site-specific requirements during the development of the Basis of Design (BOD) and coordinate system-level schematics with the EOR.
- Own and manage site-level power system issues during projects execution, collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve issues.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10 years of experience in mission critical facility design and construction environments.
- 10 years of experience in design, construction and commissioning of HVAC and mechanical distribution systems, including air and water side systems.
- Experience in mechanical infrastructure.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree in Engineering, Business, or other related fields.
- Professional engineering license.
- Experience in estimating, mechanical design, operation, and commissioning of mission critical data center mechanical equipment.
- Experience in design, construction, and commissioning of mechanical cooling plants, fire suppression systems, fuel oil systems, domestic water systems, and sanitary sewer systems in mission critical environment.
- Experience in the areas of design for production, structural beams/elements, and international building codes along with knowledge of mechanical engineering and design principles.
- Experience in designing modular building assemblies, with an understanding of mechanical tolerances and tolerance analysis.
