Google's custom-designed machines make up one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. The Hardware Testing Engineering team ensures that this equipment is reliable. In the
R&D lab, you design test equipment for prototypes of our machinery and develop the protocols used to scale these tests for the entire global team. Working closely with design engineers, you give input on designs to improve our hardware until you're sure it meets Google's standards of quality and
reliability.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $99,000-$140,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Partner with the Pixel Camera team, in particular with the Portrait and HDR+ teams on capturing real life images and videos with different devices for image data collection, image quality testing and evaluation.
- Generate image and video quality reports based on the collected images/videos and provide feedback to the engineering teams.
- Gather debug data, raw images, logs or video to help evaluate, debug, and improve the feature repeatedly.
- Capture images and videos across varied and repeatable lighting conditions and environments, casting participants, and deliver qualitative and quantitative image quality feedback to improve various image quality features.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 years of experience working as a photographer/videographer.
- Experience with systems integration and validation processes.
Preferred qualifications:
Proficiency in C++ or Python programming languages.
- Knowledge of hardware engineering including design, development, and testing of physical components of a computer/device, and how to interact with the software.
- Knowledge of computational photography and photonics engineering.
- Knowledge of hardware architecture design and component interactions, how design choices affect components and systems, standards and protocols, and the ability to navigate trade-offs.
- Ability to learn technical concepts of imaging processing pipelines.
- Ability to learn processes involved in programming/updating prototype devices.
