As a Manager of ICT Design Engineering, you will lead a team of ICT Design Engineers across the Americas region, responsible for designing the telecommunications pathways, spaces, and building operations cable plant that forms the backbone of AWS data center operations. Your team is the critical bridge between network requirements and physical infrastructure — translating complex networking needs into buildable, cost-effective designs that enable capacity delivery at scale.
In this role, you'll manage a geographically distributed team of engineers, drive design standardization across multiple build types (Commercial, Colocation, and Amazon Dedicated Cloud), and own the strategic direction of ICT infrastructure design for the Americas. You'll partner with Networking, Construction, Global Network Deployment, Security, Controls, and other engineering teams to ensure our designs meet current requirements while anticipating future network and compute evolution.
This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of data center telecommunications infrastructure at the world's largest cloud provider, while developing and growing a team of industry-leading engineers.
Key job responsibilities
* Lead, coach, and develop a geographically diverse and distributed team of 8+ ICT Design Engineers across junior to senior levels and across multiple US locations, including supporting promotion paths.
* Own the Telecommunications Basis of Design (BOD) — the governing document for all ICT infrastructure across AWS's global design portfolio.
* Drive design standardization, quality, and innovation across 15+ active programs including next-generation data center architectures.
* Develop and maintain a multi-year infrastructure strategy covering network changes, volume roadmap, and capacity planning for emerging workloads (AI/ML/HPC).
* Ensure timely delivery of scalable pathway, space, and cabling designs and specifications for construction and permitting.
* Coordinate with 8+ partner teams to align ICT designs with broader building systems and deployment timelines.
* Establish and improve operational processes including intake management, documentation standards, and metrics reporting.
* Identify and respond to risks and high-priority issues rapidly and effectively.
* Represent AMER ICT Design Engineering in alignment with Global peers and partners.
* Travel 20-30% to review projects, coordinate with onsite personnel and contractors, and participate in global offsites.
