THE ROLE:
AMD's Cores Organization delivers industry-leading CPUs that power AMD's server, client, gaming, and AI products. We are seeking a passionate Data Platform engineer with broad data engineering fundamentals to join this innovative team. This role involves designing, developing, and deploying intelligent analytics platforms that set the global standard for tracking and reporting CPU engineering progress. You'll build end-to-end solutions, from robust data pipelines and optimized databases to intuitive dashboards that drive critical decisions. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with program management and engineering leadership to understand real customer needs, architect scalable solutions, and continuously evolve our capabilities using modern AI and data technologies.
This is a high-impact contributor role for AMD's next-generation cores, based in Austin, Texas.
THE PERSON:
The candidate should be passionate about delivering customer-focused solutions and excited to constantly engage with stakeholders to understand and meet their needs. You should have strong software fundamentals, fluency across multiple languages, a commitment to testing and clean code, and experience applying AI in development, analysis, or automation. We work on programs with long timelines, so self-motivation and commitment to meeting deadlines is required. We're pushing the envelope on chip performance, which means the status quo must be challenged with creativity and innovation, backed by excellent communication skills. We work in small teams, but we are part of a large cross-site Core's organization, so teamwork is also vital to our success.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Drive end-to-end development of analytics platforms that enable effective and efficient CPU engineering
Design and implement scalable data pipelines, databases, and APIs that power real-time dashboards and reports
Build modern web applications with intuitive interfaces for exploring complex engineering metrics
Partner closely with stakeholders to understand requirements, deliver customer-focused solutions, and enable data-driven program evaluation
Leverage AI and modern data technologies to automate, enhance, and accelerate analytics capabilities
Drive adoption and operational excellence through proactive problem-solving and continuous improvement
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Strong full-stack development across backend, APIs, and frontend frameworks (React, Vue, Svelte, Angular, etc.)
Experience with database design and optimization—both relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and modern data platforms
Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript for building scalable applications
Data engineering skills: building ETL/ELT pipelines, working with large datasets, data modeling
Experience with modern data lake or lakehouse architectures (Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake, Databricks, Snowflake)
Advanced SQL skills for complex queries, performance optimization, and analytics
Experience applying AI/ML in practical applications—whether in development workflows, data analysis, or product features
Familiarity with visualization libraries (D3.js, Chart.js, Highcharts) and BI tools (PowerBI, Tableau)
Understanding of VLSI design concepts, chip development flows, or technical domains that inform better customer solutions
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
