Key job responsibilities
- Design and build scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems that process invoices for AWS's global customer base
- Own end-to-end delivery of complex features — from requirements through design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operations
- Drive technical strategy and architecture for your area, making trade-offs that balance business needs with long-term maintainability
- Lead operational excellence efforts including on-call, runbook development, alarming, and incident response
- Mentor and grow junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and day-to-day collaboration
- Partner with product managers, tax specialists, and cross-functional teams to translate complex regulatory requirements into reliable software solutions
- Identify and eliminate technical debt, improve system reliability, and reduce operational burden
- Contribute to org-wide engineering standards, best practices, and tooling
About the team
AWS Invoicing is responsible for generating accurate, timely, and compliant invoices for millions of AWS customers worldwide. We operate at the intersection of billing, tax, and financial compliance — building systems that process billions of transactions across 200+ countries and territories. Our services are critical to AWS's revenue pipeline and directly impact customer trust. - 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team - 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
