Staff Software Engineer, API Proxy

As a Software Engineer, you will work full-time on API Proxy projects. You will improve platform capabilities for the Agent Cloud Ecosystem and platform support for policy enforcement for Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services. As part of this position, you will work alongside Über Tech Leads (UTLs) and various partner teams to improve platform capabilities for the Agent Cloud Ecosystem and platform support for policy enforcement for GCP services. You will be improving platform support for service extensions like ExtProc. You will be strengthening Model Armor support for One Model Context Protocol (OneMCP) and Agent Cloud. You will be modernizing the Cloud Policy Enforcement using the ESF PDP framework. You will be facilitating the convergence of Cloud ESF and ESF.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain the API Proxy front-end for Google's One Platform, ensuring highly performant translation between Stubby, gRPC, and HTTP protocols at massive scale.
• Develop robust control plane capabilities using C++ and distributed systems, integrating critical features like authentication, authorization, rate limiting, logging, and monitoring.
• Implement resilient architectures handling hundreds of millions of Queries Per Second (QPS), incorporating load shedding and error sanitization to protect Google and Cloud APIs.
• Modernize Cloud Policy Enforcement via the
  Enterprise Security Framework (ESF) PDP framework, and strengthen Model Armor support for OneMCP and the Agent Cloud Ecosystem.
• Leverage Envoy Proxy expertise to improve platform support for service extensions like ExtProc and partner with engineering teams to converge Cloud ESF and ESF.

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience programming in C++.
• 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
• 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
• 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
