Job description
Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.
As the industry undergoes a disruptive shift driven by Agentic surfaces and new AI technologies, Google Shopping stands at a pivotal moment. Our Shopping data platforms manage billions of product offers from merchants across the world (including Ads, Discovery, Search, YouTube, Gmail, Shopping tab, and Maps) and represent a major business generation stream for the company. While this surface complexity is a significant engaging asset in the Agentic Shopping era, it also creates substantial analytics and engineering hurdles.
Responsibilities
- Lead cross-stack design initiatives and provide direct coding contributions to enhance the technical stack.
- Provide overarching leadership on data measurement, analytics, and experimentation through direct full-stack knowledge of Google Shopping systems and direct engagement in the organization’s high priority launches.
- Act as a link between strategic executive goals and the practical implementation of data initiatives, coordinating with specialized data engineers and software engineers within feature teams.
- Participate in the coordination of Data Teams across Mountain View, London, and Zurich sites.
- Guide and coach junior colleagues in software engineering, data engineering, and data scientist roles.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience programming in C++, Java, Python, Kotlin or Go.
- 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
- 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
- Experience with data processing or data analytics.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in common programming languages, such as Python, C++, Go, and SQL.
- Experience in fostering collaboration and building cross-functional synergy without relying on formal reporting structures.
- Experience in executive-level communication, delivering concise and impactful updates to executive leadership, including VPs and Directors.
- Experience performing comprehensive, self-directed research as an individual contributor within fast-paced, complex environments.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to resolve conflicts of interest autonomously to achieve meaningful results.
