The Special Projects Strategic Sourcing Specialist supports a wide variety of functions (Source-to-Pay, negotiation, vendor management, process improvement, supply chain) for internal businesses that need to rapidly scale from small projects to multi-million dollar opportunities.
Strategic Sourcing Specialists, working under the general direction of more senior team members, manage strategic data analysis to identify new customers and drive sourcing engagements across Amazon teams and subsidiaries. In this role, you'll design innovative sourcing and vendor management strategies and lead sourcing engagements across a wide range of business units. Your mission? Improve performance, optimize efficiency, ensure top-notch quality, and enable new initiatives to
launch and scale with lightning speed.

A day in the life
As a Special Projects Strategic Sourcing Specialist, you will support complex sourcing projects from start to finish. This will involve closely engaging with a diverse array of internal and external stakeholders to identify sourcing strategy - that balances business needs, effort, and efficiencies.
- Identify new internal customers and sourcing opportunities utilizing analysis from multiple sources
- Review spend data, contract pipelines, and market trends for key spend categories
- Contribute to
cross-functional team meetings to align on Source-to-Pay priorities and requirements
- Contribute to ongoing customer and vendor management, including development of category and vendor management plans
- Partner with business, finance, and legal leaders to identify and implement Procure-to-Pay best practices including savings and controllership
- Work closely with engineers, scientists, technical stakeholders, and leadership to ensure products and services meet the needs of the business
- Conduct market research and prepare
RFP documents for upcoming sourcing projects
- Manage the
RFP process, evaluate proposals, negotiate commercial deal terms and contracts, and create award recommendations
- Provide procurement analytics and insights to support data-driven decision making
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices in strategic sourcing
- Track spend and consumption across key agreements. Identify associated risks
About the team
Our Global Corporate Procurement (
GCP) special projects team engages with early stage Amazon teams that do not otherwise have dedicated procurement , business development, or vendor management support. This team focuses on the unique needs of early stage teams to increase cost efficiencies and as a value-added accelerator. The team serves as internal consultants and embedded procurement resources across multiple categories and industries.
- 5+ years of relevant strategic sourcing and category management in indirect categories such as professional services, support or maintenance spend, supply chain,
forecasting, manufacturing, sourcing/procurement, or vendor management experience
- MBA, or MS degree
- Experience practicing best-in-class procurement processes (category management,
benchmarking, should-cost models, RFX, reverse auction, contracting, or equivalent)
- Experience building and managing a team or department within a startup or entrepreneurial setting, particularly one with both proprietary and contract resources
- Experience understanding needs of business and end customers and translating them into right solutions
- Experience in drafting and negotiating the legal terms in a broad range of standard commercial contracts
- Experience being responsible/leading large and complex negotiations
- Ability to assess risk and concisely explain complex issues to principal business owners
- Strong analytical skills including the ability to quickly synthesize, distill and draw conclusions on large amounts of disparate data
- Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
