Advanced Development Algorithms Scientist – Medical Imaging (Cambridge, MA)
Take part in the development of new medical devices, particularly early feasibility development and proof of concept projects. This role will include translating clinical needs to solution concepts, technical planning, feasibility evaluation, technical risk reduction, and preparation for productization.
Your role:
Contribute to advanced development and early feasibility projects by defining design and development plans to invent, prototype, and mature medical robotics and imaging concepts. Support innovation from concept through early technical validation.
Develop medical image analysis algorithms in an FDA-regulated environment, using both classical and machine learning–based approaches for imaging, robotics, and sensor data. Ensure methods are robust, validated, and compliant.
Design, execute, and document bench and preclinical studies, including test methods, data analysis, and clear reporting of results. Generate evidence to support technical decisions and product feasibility.
Author and maintain requirements, system designs, risk analyses, and verification and validation documentation in compliance with FDA and international regulatory standards. Perform literature reviews, clinical workflow analyses, and risk or failure assessments to inform development.
Participate in technical and design reviews, clearly communicate findings, and maintain high-quality project documentation while contributing to intellectual property. Collaborate closely with design, clinical, regulatory, quality, product management, and marketing teams to deliver integrated, clinically viable solutions.
You're the right fit if:
You have 5+ years of experience as an individual contributor in medical imaging technology and product development, with hands-on involvement across the full product lifecycle.
You bring strong technical skills in medical image analysis, including classic and modern machine learning–based techniques; solid engineering fundamentals (first‑principles thinking, prototyping, test method development, data interpretation, statistical analysis, and technical report writing); bonus: experience or working knowledge of ultrasound image processing, image‑guided therapy or surgery, and structural heart or cardiac devices (e.g., catheter‑based systems, delivery systems, stents, intravascular/intracardiac ultrasound).
You hold an advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field.
You thrive in collaborative, fast‑paced environments, take accountability and ownership to deliver results quickly, communicate and educate effectively across cross‑functional teams, and have experience working in a regulated industry (medical devices preferred) with knowledge of FDA Quality System Regulations and ISO 13485.
You must be able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this position.
How we work together:
We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.
This is an office-based role.
