As a Senior R&D Engineer, you are a member of the AI&PD Hardware organization with specific responsibilities for the design, development, and implementation of products for the treatment of hydrocephalus and other neurologic disorders. The role of the Senior R&D Engineer requires strong technical and leadership skills and will apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts working on difficult technical problems. This position may provide guidance or mentorship to lower-level personnel. The Senior R&D Engineer will play a key technical leadership role in development projects from concept through commercialization and may act as a technical lead for these programs.
Provides engineering support and technical leadership for new product design and development, existing product modifications, and/or process design, development and improvement, and performance evaluation.
Evaluate designs for short- and long-term performance and reliability.
Create product performance, design, and process specifications.
Partner with Systems Engineering, external thought leaders, and internal advisors in the development of device requirements.
Champion new ideas by presenting to and influencing peers and upper management.
Interact at all levels throughout the company and with consultants and customers.
Provide high-level technical input supporting submissions to regulatory bodies and governmental agencies.
Review and approve engineering change orders for design, materials, and process documentation.
Research and integrate new technologies.
Generate and document inventions.
May be involved in product research and development and/or clinical trials.
Translates research discoveries into usable and marketable products.
Ensure all activities follow the Medtronic Code of Conduct and all Quality System Requirements.
Bachelor’s degree in a technically related field required
Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience
Medical device industry experience
Demonstrated proficiency in the field of mechanical engineering.
Proficient in the use of PTC-Creo or SolidWorks.
Knowledge in the design of molded components.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage difficult projects.
Demonstrated ability to solve difficult problems in creative and effective ways.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills including ability to effectively develop and present difficult technical information necessary for the company.
Demonstrated strong analytical skills.
Demonstrated team leadership skills
Proficient with personal computer software including word processing, spreadsheet, and statistical programs; computer aided drawing and project scheduling software preferred
Demonstrated strong understanding and application of Quality System requirements, including FDA GMPs, and ISO 9000 and documentation procedures; ability to learn MPSM systems quickly
Engineering statistical data analysis using Minitab, Six Sigma, A3/Fishbone/DRM, etc.
For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
