Job description

You will design, develop, and launch next-generation optical sensing technologies. You will analyze data to draw conclusions, enhance product design and manufacturability, and drive failure analysis. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams - including Optical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Process Engineers, Reliability Engineers, Test Engineers, and Software Engineers-to deliver state-of-the-art sensing.

Design and develop the optical sensing system
System-level prototyping, integration, characterization and end-to-end validation
Schematic design of boards and flexible assemblies
Conduct failure mode analysis, root-cause diagnosis, and system-level problem-solving; execute engineering builds and drive cross-functional communication to enhance product design and manufacturability

Strong electrical engineering background in analog and mixed-signal system-level circuit design, sensor design, modeling, and analog circuit simulations experiences
Hands-on experience with board-level circuit design and lab equipment (microscopes, detector, light sources etc)
Scripting experience for data analysis and automation
Business travel up to 10% as required
BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant proven industry experience

Optical Sensor and systems integration experience preferred
Experience in ANSYS, SPICE, or similar simulation and modeling tools
Experience supporting volume manufacturing, including test design, failure analysis, and statistical
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and solid collaboration and leadership skills
Strong teamwork abilities and self-motivation to tackle technical challenges
MS or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics

The Sensing Systems team integrates optical, capacitive, MEMS, and magnetic sensors across a variety of Apple products such as the Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad, and more. The Optical Sensing team is looking for electrical engineers with analog, board-level design experience and is a hard-working go-getter. Experience with photodiode front-ends, LED/VCSEL drivers, and basic optics is a plus.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $147,400 and $272,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
