Job description
Google's projects, like our users, span the globe and require leaders to keep the big picture in focus while being able to navigate into unique engineering, system reliability, and cyber security challenges.
As a Regional Internet of Things (IoT) Operations and Cyber Security specialist at Google, you will bridge the gap between global strategy and the technical execution required to operate stable, reliable, and secure building systems and specialized IoT hardware.
This is a dual-mandate role where your expertise will balance operational technology (OT) operations with cyber security risk management. You will serve as the strategic operations and cyber security authority for your region, driving the daily performance and life cycle management of regional IoT systems while defending them against cyber threats. You are equally at home commanding the response to a system outage as you are leading a cyber security incident response, applying your expertise to manage external vendor Service Level Agreements (SLAs) or explaining technical risk trade-offs to executives.
Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Learn more about benefits at Google.
Responsibilities
- Define regional architecture and vendor approach (including SLAs). Ensure the availability, reliability, and life cycle management via maintenance.
- Operationalize global IoT strategies including fostering a data-driven security culture through training and tracking key performance metrics (uptime and patch compliance). Act as the regional authority for cyber risk acceptance and compliance, ensuring all IoT systems remain compliant.
- Own regional vulnerability and patch management programs. Drive corrective actions for IoT security incidents, mitigating risk within defined Service Level Objectives (SLOs) for critical systems (building management, health, food).
- Lead regional procurement, ensuring new IoT devices adhere to Security-by-Design policies and pass functionality reviews.
- Develop "Smart Building" ecosystems. Utilize IoT infrastructure, Predictive Maintenance, and data analytics to maximize asset life cycles and advance Sustainability goals.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Building Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Controls, IT, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience defining and leading cross country programs in system operations, lifecycle management, and cyber security for an operational technology (OT) or IoT portfolio.
- Experience in procurement and vendor management, including negotiating Service Level Agreements (SLAs)/Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
- Experience in incident response and vulnerability management.
Preferred qualifications:
- Industry certification in cybersecurity or IoT/smart building technologies.
- Ability to balance OT and smart building engineering (HVAC, lighting, Fault Detection and Diagnostics (FDD), Waste management, kitchen systems, fitness machines) with applied cyber security principles (network segmentation, encryption, access and identity).
- Ability to serve as the final approval point for escalated technical, operational or cyber security issues along with excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to represent the organization internally and externally.
