In this role, you will sit at the critical intersection of silicon engineering, memory technology, and product programs to drive DRAM technology decisions for years to come. You will bring a deep understanding of the memory/semiconductor industry and the intricacies of relationships between internal silicon design, packaging, system, and operations teams to lead supplier engagements and enable smooth ramps of high volume, technically complex memory devices across Apple's product lines.
In this multifaceted role, you will own DRAM technology strategy, from technology selection through long-term roadmap alignment. You will drive decisions on technology adoption, build priorities, and risk mitigation, while providing engineering-informed inputs to NPI supply cost models in partnership with Global Supply Management (GSM). You will harness worldwide memory supplier capabilities to Apple's advantage, and optimize supplier engineering performance by monitoring and influencing key metrics such as yield, quality, reliability, and technical readiness. You will rapidly synthesize complex engineering, qualification, and supply data into clear narratives for senior leadership, and proactively identify risks that could impact product strategy. The role includes periodic international travel to supplier sites, primarily in Korea and Taiwan.
Develop and drive multi-year DRAM technology and qualification plans aligned to Apple's silicon and product roadmaps, spanning LPDDR5X, LPDDR6, and HBM-class memory.
Partner closely with Global Supply Management (GSM), Silicon Engineering, DRAM Packaging, and System Engineering teams to drive technical engagements with DRAM suppliers.
Represent Apple's silicon engineering requirements to supplier executives and align on product-level strategies.
Drive organizational alignment on critical decisions and risks by synthesizing complex findings into clear, actionable recommendations for senior Apple leadership and supplier executives.
Drive DRAM technology qualification programs and NPI execution from initial sampling through mass production, owning engineering schedules, milestone tracking, and critical path risk mitigation across silicon design, packaging, validation, and reliability teams.
Evaluate DRAM technology trade-offs (density, power, performance, package form factor) and make recommendations that influence silicon architecture and product decisions.
Develop and maintain DRAM technology comparison frameworks to inform multi-generational platform decisions (e.g., LPDDR5X, LPDDR6, HBM).
Coordinate engineering-informed inputs to NPI supply cost models, including yield projections, technology complexity assessments, and qualification cost drivers.
Partner with GSM to ensure cost targets reflect technical realities and risk.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Materials Science, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field, plus 20+ years of relevant experience.
Proven experience in semiconductor/memory technology development, qualification, or NPI program management, including direct technical engagement with memory or semiconductor suppliers.
MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
Deep knowledge of the DRAM/memory industry, including technology roadmaps, supplier landscape, manufacturing processes, JEDEC standards, and commercial dynamics.
Understanding of DRAM architecture and device physics (cell structure, refresh mechanisms, error correction, signal integrity) and packaging technologies (PoP, fan-out, interposer-based).
Experience with memory qualification methodologies including environmental and lifetime reliability testing (HTOL, LTOL, HAST), characterization, and failure analysis.
Strong supplier engagement experience, including capacity and schedule planning, critical messaging, and executive escalation. Experience working with international supplier engineering teams is a plus.
Experience managing high volume silicon manufacturing processes across the full NPI lifecycle, working with Silicon Engineering, Packaging, Quality, Platform Architecture, and Operations teams.
Demonstrated cross-functional leadership with a strong track record of influencing without authority, driving consensus, and resolving critical problems under pressure.
Ability to synthesize complex engineering and supply chain data into clear, actionable messaging for executive audiences.
Impeccable ability to track details across complex engineering qualification, material, and capacity trackers.
Awareness of DRAM commercial dynamics and ability to partner with GSM on cost-informed engineering decisions.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
