Apple's Environment & Supply Chain Innovation team is seeking an Environmental Standards Expert to represent Apple directly in the development and revision of leading climate standards — participating in ISO and IEC technical committees, as well as other industry-led efforts as they emerge.
The person in this seat will develop technically grounded positions on contested methodological questions, advocate for scientifically rigorous and implementable approaches, and translate external developments into actionable internal guidance. The primary focus is climate — GHG accounting, science-based target-setting, and net zero frameworks — with potential expansion to circularity and water. The role collaborates across Environmental Technologies, Facilities, Operations, Government Affairs, Finance, and Legal teams, and requires domestic and international travel to attend working group meetings.
Serve as Apple's member expert in ISO, IEC, SBTi, GHGP, and other climate and environmental standards working groups; engage in technical deliberations and represent Apple's positions with authority.
Research and develop Apple's positions on proposed standards, methodological revisions, and contested accounting questions — with depth in GHG accounting, science-based targets, and climate disclosure.
Track the evolving standards landscape; identify emerging working groups, comment periods, and participation opportunities relevant to Apple's environmental commitments.
Serve as an authoritative internal reference for teams navigating complex technical requirements — translating external standards developments into clear, actionable guidance.
Drive alignment across internal teams; synthesize technical findings for senior leadership to secure buy-in on Apple's external positions and internal implementation priorities.
BS/BA in environmental science, climate science, engineering, chemistry, economics, or a related technical field
7+ years of experience in climate or environmental roles with demonstrated technical depth in GHG accounting or science-based climate frameworks
Direct familiarity with the GHG Protocol, SBTi frameworks, and/or ISO 14000-series standards
Familiarity with climate disclosure regulations and frameworks (e.g., TCFD, SEC climate rules, CSRD) and their relationship to voluntary standards
Experience participating in or closely tracking formal standards development processes — whether through ISO/IEC technical committees, industry coalitions, or NGO-led initiatives
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; able to represent technical positions clearly and persuasively in multi-stakeholder settings
Proven track record influencing standards, frameworks, or methodologies in a multi-stakeholder environment
Experience with circularity, water, or other environmental topic areas as a secondary domain
Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, long-horizon processes with many competing stakeholders
Systems thinker who can identify key leverage points within complex methodological and policy landscapes
Self-organized and self-directed — able to independently manage participation across multiple concurrent standards processes with different timelines and deliverables
Comfortable forming and defending well-reasoned positions with incomplete information
High integrity, sharp attention to detail, and genuine passion for Apple's environmental mission
Advanced degree a plus
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required by working group schedules (~10–25%)
