We are looking for an experienced Software Development Engineer III to design, build, and operate highly scalable
distributed systems at Amazon scale. This role requires strong hands-on production experience with both
Java and
Rust.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will own complex, high-impact technical problems end-to-end, drive architecture and design decisions, and deliver reliable, scalable solutions. You will work across
distributed systems, performance, scalability, and service architecture while influencing technical direction and mentoring engineers across the team.
Key job responsibilities
- Hands-on experience designing, building, testing, and operating production software in
Rust.
- Experience designing and delivering scalable
distributed systems and leading architecture across multiple components or services.
- Lead architecture and technical design for complex, high-impact projects.
- Solve challenging problems involving
distributed systems, concurrency, performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Drive technical decisions across team and organizational boundaries.
- Own systems end-to-end, including production operations and operational excellence.
- Mentor engineers and raise the team’s technical bar.
- 7+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
- Experience designing, building, operating, and managing large-scale
distributed systems or web services
- Professional production experience developing software in both
Java and
Rust- Experience migrating high-scale services from
Java to
Rust- Experience optimizing memory-intensive or latency-sensitive
distributed systems, benchmarking, performance profiling, and large-scale production migrations.
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
