Job description
Amazon Traffic Engineering delivers managed compute and networking solutions that help engineers build secure, highly available, and scalable services — all on top of AWS technologies. We drive the foundational infrastructure, tools, and best practices behind Amazon's global SOA expansion.
As an SDE on the BigMesh team, you'll build centralized traffic management and networking solutions handling security, authentication, authorization, load balancing, and routing for Amazon's most critical services. Your work will directly improve availability, efficiency, and developer productivity by turning complex SOA concerns into managed abstractions that "just work."
We use Golang, Rust, and Java. If you're new to any of these, our onboarding will get you up to speed. Come help make developing software at Amazon more seamless and flexible!
Key job responsibilities
- Own the full software development lifecycle for Service Mesh features, from design through implementation, testing, and production readiness.
- Write high-quality, maintainable code in Golang, Rust, or Java that meets Amazon's engineering standards.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and senior engineers to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions for traffic management and connectivity.
- Design and build networking features (load balancing, routing, throttling, authentication) used by thousands of Amazon services.
- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, architecture discussions, and knowledge sharing.
- Identify and drive process improvements that increase team efficiency and system reliability.
- Participate in on-call rotation to resolve production issues and proactively mitigate operational risks.
A day in the life
