Job description
At Google, we "Focus on the user and all else will follow." Our Visual Designers weave space, typography, color, and iconography to help people successfully navigate our products, ensuring they are beautiful and accessible. You will join our multi-disciplinary UX team, collaborating with Engineering and Product Management, to leverage user insights and create industry-leading products.
As a Visual Designer, you will rely on user-centered design methods to craft industry-leading user experiences from concept to execution. You will collaborate with your design partners to leverage and evolve the Google design language to build beautiful, innovative, inspired products that people love to use.
The Home UX Studio is a horizontal design team that drives visual design, motion, and AI craft across the entire Google Home cross-functional portfolio. Rather than operating on the sidelines, we embed directly into product teams as active builders to help launch the next generation of Google Home experiences.
Whether we are shaping agent-first interactions in the Google Home app or crafting the visual language for new hardware like Smart Displays, Doorbells, and Thermostats, our focus is on design excellence. We partner directly with the Material Design team among others to build and scale cohesive systems across multiple platforms, while bringing warmth, emotion, and expressive design into products that live in people's homes.
US: $132000 - $189000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities
- Design and evolve scalable visual systems that bridge mobile app surfaces, new Home hardware devices, and ambient computing experiences.
- Use AI workflows, Vibe Coding, and internal tools like Jetski to rapidly explore ideas, validate visual systems, and bridge the gap between design and production.
- Jump into high-priority product initiatives across the Home UX portfolio to design standout features and user experiences alongside product, engineering, and motion partners.
- Infuse strong visual design principles, typography, color, and emotional expression into hardware and software products made for everyday life at home.
- Work closely with the Material Design team and cross-functional partners to ensure our design language remains consistent, accessible, and expressive across every screen and device.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 4 years of visual design experience in product design or UX/UI design.
- Experience using industry-standard design and prototyping tools (such as Figma) to build the UI components and visual systems.
- Experience leveraging generative AI tools, automated workflows, and design-to-code pipelines to accelerate prototyping, automate system maintenance, and bridge design with engineering.
- Include a portfolio, website, or any other relevant link to your work in your resume (providing a viewable link or access instructions).
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience working in a complex, cross-functional organization.
- 1 year of experience leading design projects.
- Understanding of user-centered design principles and the flexibility to jump into end-to-end feature flows, ensuring visual systems enhance usability, comprehension, and product metrics.
- Ability to execute high-craft visual design (including typography, layout, color, elevation, and motion) that balances structured system rules with expressive, emotional design decisions.
- A strong command of design systems, token architecture, and component libraries.
