Job description
Amazon Web Services (AWS) Hardware Engineering (HWEng) team creates compute and storage server designs for Amazon’s innovative web services. Our designs are industry-leading in performance, frugality and operational excellence, and are critical to the success of the AWS business and the more than one million customers who use AWS today. Our Principal Engineers help establish technical standards and drive Amazon’s overall technical architecture, engineering practices, and engineering methodologies. They work on our hardest problems, building high quality, architecturally sound systems that are aligned with our business needs. They think globally when building systems, ensuring Amazon.com builds high performing, scalable systems that fit well together.
The AWS Hardware Development team creates compute, storage, and edge-server designs that drive innovation across our web services. We own the hardware design life cycle, manage systems that ensure every piece of server hardware is healthy and manageable, and build essential software that interfaces with cutting-edge embedded systems all over the world. If you want to do work that makes an impact, you belong at AWS.
You’ll work in a fast-paced, collaborative culture that offers more opportunities to take risks, extend your skills, and transform how our customers run their businesses. The scope and scale of AWS drives continual change, so you’ll embrace ambiguity and collaborate to create custom solutions that delight our customers and advance our technology. Join our team and help us redefine what’s possible with the cloud.
Principal Engineers are pragmatic visionaries who can translate business needs into workable technology solutions. Their expertise is deep and broad. They are hands on, producing both detailed technical work and high-level architectural designs.
Ideal skill-sets include: Hardware Development, Thermal and Mechanical Design, Firmware and Embedded Systems, Quality and Reliability, Test, and Materials
• 10+ years of experience in server technologies, including: electrical, mechanical, thermal, and software.
• 8+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
• Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Materials Science or a related field
• Experience developing and operating hardware at scale
