This position will be part of the Amazon
Route 53 team in the Herndon, VA office. Amazon
Route 53 is a highly available and scalable Domain Name System (
DNS) service offered by Amazon Web Services. We operate in over 50 locations worldwide and provide advanced functionality such as Private
DNS,
DNS Firewall,
DNS resolver and integration with a plethora of
AWS services. On top of that, we offer fast change propagation with a 100% availability
SLA. Our service is quickly growing and we're expanding in multiple directions: adding new features and functionality to our
DNS services, better traffic management, new
AWS integrations, improving our health check capabilities, and expanding with new security services and routing space.
We work on deep, technical problems that span a variety of core topics in computer science ranging from databases to networking to
distributed systems to numerical analysis to security. We are looking for a developer who will lead the team and who feels strongly not only about building good software but also about running that software in the real world.

- Design, develop, and maintain highly available, scalable
distributed systems for Amazon
Route 53's
DNS infrastructure operating across 50+ global locations
- Lead technical initiatives to build new features and functionality including Private
DNS,
DNS Firewall,
DNS resolver, health checks, and security services
- Own the full software development lifecycle—from architecture and implementation to deployment and production operations—while maintaining a 100% availability
SLA- Collaborate cross-functionally with teams across
AWS to deliver integrations, traffic management solutions, and routing capabilities
- Drive operational excellence by building and running software in production, troubleshooting complex issues spanning databases, networking,
distributed systems, and security
- Mentor team members and raise the technical bar through code reviews, design discussions, and engineering best practices
- Solve challenging problems in computer science including
distributed systems, numerical analysis, networking, and security at massive scale
About the team
R53 Waypoint
We own highly scalable
DNS data plane for Public and Private Hosted Zone. We are building new services and feature for our customers. In addition, we are looking into scaling system to process millions of requests of second by using
XDP/eBPF. And we are increasing operational efficiency by using GenAI tools and automation.
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as
Java,
C++, or
C# including object-oriented design
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience in Network protocols like
DNS/DHCP/TCP, or experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities and experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems
- - Experience working with
XDP/eBPF is plus

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
