How to apply to Apple (jobs.apple.com, interviews, ICT levels)

Guide · Updated 2026-10-04

To apply to Apple, go to jobs.apple.com, open a role, press Submit Resume, and sign in with an Apple Account. Apple runs its own careers site — not Greenhouse, Workday, or Lever. Attach a résumé (PDF, Word, Pages, RTF, or TXT, 2 MB max), paste it as text, or import LinkedIn, then review and submit. Hiring is team-driven: each team runs its own loop, commonly a recruiter call, a technical phone screen, and an onsite of roughly six to eight rounds. Browse Apple's open US roles on applinity's Apple company page, which shows the live count.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Find the role. Search jobs.apple.com by keyword, location, team, or product. Each posting has a role number and four sections: Summary, Description, Minimum Qualifications, Preferred Qualifications.
  2. Sign in with an Apple Account. Your profile, saved searches, and favorites all require it. No account? The sign-in page has a "Create yours now" link.
  3. Submit your résumé. Three options: attach a file (PDF, Microsoft Word, Pages, RTF, or TXT; 2 MB max), paste plain text, or import your LinkedIn profile. Apple parses it and asks you to review, edit, and confirm the details before they reach your profile.
  4. Add supporting material. Optional: a cover letter, portfolio link, or letters of recommendation.
  5. Review and submit. The confirmation reads: "We'll review your submission and contact you if it's a match." Every submission is listed under Your Roles.

Three details matter. One submission covers every location where the role is posted. The postings we sampled say "Apple accepts applications to this posting on an ongoing basis," so there is no stated deadline. And if no posting fits, Get Discovered takes your résumé without a specific role; a recruiter gets in touch if there is a match. Need an accommodation? Apple directs corporate applicants to accommodationrequest@apple.com.

Corporate vs retail vs student paths

  • Corporate. Apple groups roles into nine teams: Software and Services, Hardware, Machine Learning and AI, Design, Operations and Supply Chain, Marketing, Sales and Business Development, Support and Service, and Corporate Functions.
  • Retail. Same site, different form. Roles include Specialist, Technical Specialist, Genius, Creative, Business Expert, Manager, and Store Leader. You pick stores during the application; the picker marks locations "Hiring Now" or "Accepting Future Applications". The US Specialist posting we sampled requires availability on nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Students. Internships are open to full-time students pursuing a bachelor's, master's, or doctorate, as summer internships or co-ops during the academic year. Apple Support College Advisor is a part-time role at participating universities.

The Apple interview loop

Apple's careers site does not describe its interview stages. The most detailed public account is interviewing.io's guide, written with Apple interviewers. Treat it as reported, not official:

  1. Recruiter call or online assessment. Ask the recruiter what the team's rounds look like. Formats vary by team.
  2. Technical phone screen (30–60 min). Coding in a shared environment, with one interviewer or a panel. It can also be a hiring-manager screen that mixes behavioral questions and coding.
  3. Onsite (roughly six to eight rounds). Each round is with future teammates, one or two interviewers at a time. One team's loop looks very different from another's. TechPrep's guide puts the range at four to eight rounds.
  4. Team decision. One interviewer describes the team gathering the same day and voting thumbs up or down. Another says a hiring manager can end an onsite early when feedback misses the bar.

Two more points from the same guide. Apple lets candidates interview with different teams concurrently. And AI use in Apple interviews is strictly prohibited.

What Apple screens for, by track

Software and Services

TechPrep reports LeetCode-style medium problems or domain-specific tasks, such as implementing a thread-safe cache, plus system design or object-oriented design and behavioral rounds. A Cupertino data-platform posting we sampled asks for 5+ years of experience and "strong software design skills, coupled with a deep knowledge of data structures and algorithms." See software-engineering postings.

Hardware

Postings name the domain precisely. An Austin SRAM circuit design role asks for a bachelor's plus 3 years, and prefers SoC design-cycle experience, RTL modeling, nanometer device physics, and silicon debug. Match that vocabulary where it is true. See hardware-engineering postings.

Machine Learning and AI

Credentials are spelled out. One ML evaluation posting lists an M.S. as strongly preferred, accepts a bachelor's with 7+ years, and prefers a PhD. See ML postings.

Every track: "Why Apple?"

interviewing.io says Apple values behavioral interviews more than coding and cares about the "why" behind your work. Its interviewers call privacy an obsession, not a buzzword. TechPrep notes the "Why Apple?" question carries real weight in the hiring-manager screen.

Levels and compensation

Apple's engineering ladder runs ICT2 through ICT6. levels.fyi reports these US figures as of October 2026:

  • Software engineer total comp. ICT2 $167K · ICT3 $256K · ICT4 $352K · ICT5 $569K. Median $336K.
  • Hardware engineer total comp. ICT2 $176K · ICT3 $244K · ICT4 $352K · ICT5 $496K. Median $355K.
  • RSU vesting. Four years, 12.5% every six months.
  • Posted base pay. California and New York locations print a range. One ML role lists $175,000–$308,500 in San Diego and $184,700–$324,800 in New York City. Austin locations showed none.

Postings add that employees are eligible for discretionary RSU awards and a discounted Employee Stock Purchase Plan, and that a role "might be eligible for discretionary bonuses or commission payments as well as relocation." For how base, bonus, and RSUs fit together, read salary bands explained.

Visa sponsorship

Apple sponsors H-1B. In fiscal year 2025 it had 823 petitions for initial employment approved — sixth among US employers, behind Amazon (4,644), Meta (1,555), Microsoft (1,394), Google (1,050), and TCS (846) — per NFAP's analysis of USCIS data. It also had 4,610 continuing-employment approvals; NFAP notes those do not map to individual employees. Check any year yourself on the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub. The postings we sampled don't state sponsorship either way, so raise it on the recruiter call. More in H-1B sponsorship at tech companies.

Timeline

Apple states no timeline. TechPrep reports that most software candidates go through stages that typically span five to eight weeks, and that the process is highly team-specific. Apple's confirmation promises contact only "if it's a match," so plan for silence on some submissions and keep other applications moving.

Résumé tips specific to Apple

  • Write for one team. Apple says your résumé helps it "understand which teams most closely match your skills and interests." Hiring is team by team; a generic résumé matches none.
  • Mirror the Minimum Qualifications. Each posting lists them separately from Preferred. Cover every minimum line you can defend. applinity tailors a résumé per job description.
  • Check the parse. Apple shows you the details it extracted before saving them. Fix errors there. Score yours first on the free applinity ATS scorer and read ATS résumé optimization.
  • Prepare the "why". Have a specific answer to "Why Apple?" and to why each decision in your projects was made.

Frequently asked questions

How do I apply to Apple?

Search jobs.apple.com, open a role, and press Submit Resume. Sign in with an Apple Account (create one if you don't have it), attach a résumé as PDF, Microsoft Word, Pages, RTF, or TXT (2 MB max), paste it as text, or import your LinkedIn profile. Review the parsed details and submit. Your submissions are listed under Your Roles in your profile.

What ATS does Apple use?

Apple takes applications through its own careers site, jobs.apple.com — not Greenhouse, Workday, or Lever. The site builds a profile from your résumé or LinkedIn import and asks you to review the parsed details before they are saved.

Do I need an Apple Account to apply to Apple?

Yes. The profile, saved searches, favorites, and store selection on jobs.apple.com all sit behind an Apple Account sign-in. The site's own copy tells applicants without one to use the "Create yours now" link on the sign-in page.

How many Apple roles can I apply to at once?

We found no published cap on jobs.apple.com. One submission covers every location where that role is posted. interviewing.io's guide, written with Apple interviewers, says Apple is decentralized and lets candidates interview with different teams concurrently.

What is the Apple interview process?

Apple does not publish one. interviewing.io describes three steps: a recruiter call or online assessment, a technical phone screen of 30 minutes to an hour, and an onsite of roughly six to eight rounds with your future teammates. Loops differ by team — Apple does not standardize questions across teams.

What are Apple's engineering levels?

Engineering levels run ICT2 through ICT6. levels.fyi lists ICT2 as junior or entry level, ICT3 as software engineer, and ICT4 as senior. As of October 2026 it reports US software-engineer total compensation of $167K at ICT2, $256K at ICT3, $352K at ICT4, and $569K at ICT5, with a $336K median.

Does Apple sponsor H-1B?

Yes. Apple had 823 H-1B petitions for initial employment approved in fiscal year 2025, sixth among all US employers, per the National Foundation for American Policy's analysis of USCIS data. It also had 4,610 continuing-employment approvals. The postings we sampled don't state sponsorship either way, so confirm it with the recruiter.

Does Apple post salary ranges on job listings?

On California and New York locations, yes. The postings we sampled on 2026-10-03 carry a Pay & Benefits section with a base pay range — for example $184,700 to $324,800 for a software engineer role in Cupertino. The Austin, Texas locations we sampled showed no range.

How do I apply to an Apple Store job?

Through the same site. Retail roles — Specialist, Technical Specialist, Genius, Creative, Business Expert, and store leadership — are posted on jobs.apple.com under Apple Retail, and the application asks you to pick stores. Apple's student page says no tech experience is needed for Apple Store roles; training is provided.
