Job description

In this role, you will conduct repairability assessments at key product milestones, partner with design teams to improve serviceability, and develop repair procedures that enable efficient, high-quality service. You'll work across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Watch, and Vision product lines — seeing products before they launch and influencing decisions that affect how they're repaired for years to come.

The ideal candidate has a demonstrated track record of running multiple simultaneous projects, communicating results to peers, leadership, and 3rd parties. The person filling this position will be a hands-on, focused, and self-motivated engineer with excellent technical and organizational skills, and a strong desire to succeed in a challenging environment.

Develop, implement, and document serviceability standards for Apple products
Drive Design and Regulatory standards and relations that impact the business
Conduct repairability assessments at POR, EVT, DVT, and PVT milestones to identify service risks and recommend design improvements
Perform teardown and disassembly analysis to evaluate repair accessibility and identify cycle time bottlenecks
Develop and validate repair procedures and SOPs for software-involved service processes
Evaluate adhesive systems, fasteners, and fixture designs to improve repair quality and efficiency
Work with cross-functional teams to evaluate, inform decisions, explore risks, and explore mitigation options prior to design commitment
Support regulatory compliance by documenting repair procedures and verifying disassembly requirements
Partner with product design, manufacturing, and factory teams to ensure service considerations are incorporated early in development
Design new processes in line with hardware graphics requirements, operating management as needed

5+ years of experience in hardware service engineering, mechanical engineering, or manufacturing engineering
Hands-on experience with product disassembly, repair procedures, or DFM/DFA analysis
Strong analytical skills with experience using data to identify problems and measure improvements
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and CAD models
Excellent communication skills with ability to influence cross-functional partners
Impeccable attention to details
BS in Mechanical Engineering or similar

Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with myriad partners
Highly effective communicator, strong in both spoken and written skills; sharp interpersonal skills with understanding of how to reach varied audiences in a climate of debate
Experience with consumer electronics repair or service operations
Familiarity with adhesive technologies, fastener systems, and modular design principles
Experience with CAD tools (NX, SolidWorks, or similar)
Knowledge of regulatory requirements including EU Ecodesign, right-to-repair legislation, or environmental compliance standards
Executive presence — comfortable presenting to senior leadership with hunger for collaboration and courage towards problem-solving
Calm under fire, high complexity, fast-paced environments
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time; our positions require periodic travel to address and anticipate global needs
